Matt Wakefield MSc ASCC


profile-pic-webMatt completed a Masters degree in Sports Science and Biomechanics in 2002. He then went on to complete the Premier Diploma in Personal Training and Sports Massage (REPS* level 3). Since then Matt has worked at one of the large fitness chains in Canary Wharf where he progressed to Personal Training tutor/assessor and was involved in the delivery of educational courses for other trainers across the company. Since starting Greenwich Fitness in 2011 Matt has become an accredited member of the UK Strength and Conditioning Association a professional body specialising in the preparation of athletes for competitive sport.

Whilst working as a personal trainer, Matt has developed an approach to training that has seen his clients gain results time and again. By developing strength, flexibility and postural balance whilst optimising body composition, Matt’s training approach will help you achieve your fitness goals. Matt is passionate about the benefits of sport and exercise and loves his work. Seeing his clients make progress and make positive changes to their lives brings Matt great satisfaction and pride.

Matt is a keen triathlete having competed in over 65 events ranging from sprint to half iron distance. He has represented Great Britain at Age Group Level at both the Sprint and Olympic distances at the World Championships in Vancouver in 2008 and Budapest in 2010 and qualified for the European Championships in Israel in 2011. In addition to this Matt is a British Triathlon Federation coach and has helped many people achieve success in a variety of endurance sports.

*REPS is the fitness industry professional body. Being a member of REPS ensures that qualifications and skills have been verified and that appropriate public liability insurance has been obtained.


Liz Walker

Liz is an experienced massage therapist, having obtained a BTEC level 4 and ITEC level 3 in Holistic Massage at Essentials for Health in 2009. She is trained in Deep Tissue Massage, Shiatsu and remedial techniques including Soft Tissue Release and neuromuscular techniques and is currently completing her studies in Sports and Remedial massage at the world renowned NLSSM (North London School of Sports Massage) to BTEC level 5. She also holds a certificate in First Aid for Sports from React First.

Following a career in Project Management Liz is now a full time massage therapist. She is passionate about the remedial and holistic benefits of massage as well as promoting a fun, healthy lifestyle combining a good diet, exercise and massage therapy – as both prevention and cure from injury and stresses of modern life. Liz enjoys keeping fit and healthy by walking, running, yoga, Pilates as well as boot-camp style training in the park and on the heath. She can be found in Greenwich Park at some point most days!

Liz has also worked as a massage therapist in a voluntary capacity for a number of charities and organisations including the London marathon, Downsed, Dulwich Paragon cycling club & the Moonwalk breast cancer charity. She is currently providing injury, massage and rehabilitation service for Blackheath Rugby Club and treats a range of athletes at all levels from professional to occasional – whether you are a mum or a triathlete, a runner, football or rugby player.
